Optum Serve™ stands ready to support the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with their value management approach. This approach defines value as health outcomes that matter most to the individuals they serve.

We support many health care organizations in this endeavor, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), on the journey to value-based care. CMS has engaged The Lewin Group, part of  Optum Serve, in a variety of ways.

Lewin is taking part in six evaluation and learning system contracts for CMS. These initiatives have the potential to help CMS transform health care delivery and positively impact the health of millions of Americans.

Lewin also supports CMS with its Comprehensive Primary Care Plus Initiative. This is a national advanced primary care medical home model. It aims to strengthen primary care by through regionally based multi-payer payment reform and by transforming care delivery. 

Lewin and its partners have established and manage 14 Regional Learning Networks to support nearly 3,000 practices in the United States using this model. The result is better care while promoting smarter health care spending. 

With this experience in mind, Optum Serve can assist the DHA and the VA in developing achievable plans to control costs, satisfy patient needs and deliver better health care. These strategies include:

• Optimizing performance to align clinical and revenue cycle workflows for faster and more accurate payment
• Preparing for change by redesigning care delivery models to benefit from outcomes-based reimbursement
• Investing new capital to transform the quality and effectiveness of the care provided to patients
