Cybersecurity becomes a more important and evolving theme as the healthcare industry goes forward for two reasons. First, a healthcare data record is more expensive than traditional records that one might think of with cybersecurity such as finance, banking or credit card information. A financial record goes between one and $25 on the black market. However, a healthcare record can go up to as close as $400 per record because there's so many different ways to use the data. In addition to that, technology has exploded in the medical space and so we need to ensure not only the integrity of our data and its confidentiality, but the integrity of the systems that our clinicians use to make data-driven decisions about patients to accelerate their care and to provide different treatment modalities.
Speaker 1:
OptumServe takes a market leading approach to keeping data secure and it happens in three primary areas. The first one is technology. We use market leading technology to address our security strategy with a defense in depth approach. So looking at our perimeter, next generation firewalls, multifactor authentication and our advanced behavioral heuristics tools that we use to determine whether something is working right or not. The second part is our people. It's really critical to empower our front lines and all the individuals in our company to understand what might be a cybersecurity issue and what might they need to do to react to that. We have a 24 by seven security operation center that spans the globe and we also work with our individuals on things like phishing campaigns. So not only do they know how to protect data that they use at work, but also how they can protect themselves at home.
Speaker 1:
And the last one is data. We have big data analytics that we use to analyze petabytes of data across our organization to make advanced insights into what is an issue that we may need to pay more attention to and how can we filter out the noise and focus on those actionable events.
Speaker 1:
I think there are a couple of ways that OptumServe can support federal agencies with their cybersecurity needs. First and foremost, staying vigilant about the data that is entrusted to us and making sure that it is secure. Second is through collaboration with different federal agencies around insights, attack indicators and patterns that we're seeing, sharing those out through the community so they can take action to address them quickly and to get in front of them before they become a big issue. I think of it as a giant interconnected neighborhood watch, if you will, for healthcare in the United States.
Cybersecurity is more important than ever in federal health IT
