Providing care that’s safe, convenient for patients
April 3, 2020
To put patients’ safety first during the COVID-19 outbreak, Optum doctors and staff are creatively meeting patients where they are — even in parking lots — to ensure they are getting the care they need, wherever they need it.
At the American Health Network, part of Optum, in Avon, Indiana, Eric Hewitt, DO, and his team tested families and kids in the privacy of their vehicles. This helped patients avoid unnecessary exposure to germs.
In nearby Franklin, Indiana, when an influx of patients started coming in with COVID-19 symptoms, care providers quickly shifted to new routines. One example: A podiatrist’s office is where health care professionals normally treat feet and lower limbs. But the staff at that office jumped from foot care to the front lines so that more patients could get screenings and answers from caring professionals, faster.
“We’d like to give a shout out to all the other innovative, dedicated drive-up testing teammates working to keep our patients safe in the Midwest.”
